My First Twitter Chat
I recently participated in my very first twitter chat. Overall it was a fun, exciting, slightly overwhelming, and very inspiring experience. The host was #21stedchat, which is a weekly chat which focuses on 2st century teaching practices. The chat started with participants introducing themselves to the chat. Then the host of the chat posted the first question which focused on whether or not schools allowed enough time for students to develop creatively. I noticed that in the chat many people began their responses with A1 or A2 to signal to others what question they were responding to. I also learned that students is often written as Ss. Once I posted a tweet into the chat some people responded directly to the tweet by writing @MsOteaches4th at the beginning of their tweet.
The whole experience was sort of overwhelming. There are so many messages flying by, and people responding to what you wrote, and new questions being posted, it is very exciting, but I was worried that I would miss some valuable information. I think this would be a great way to get introduced to new teaching ideas as well as to find new teachers to follow and collaborate with. I certainly learned a lot of exciting new information. Not to mention the fact that there are tons of teachers in this country thinking not only 21st century teaching skills, but more specifically student choice as a form of engagement, which is specifically the topic of my Capstone. This will be very helpful as I now know an excellent place to turn to crowd source other research, new strategies, as well as wisdom and advice.
